Tico

Meet Tico, our beloved oldest mini donkey at the Funny Farm! He arrived with his long-time buddy, Eeyore, and like all our donkeys, he gets super excited about breakfast. If you take too long to serve him, his cheerful braying will echo across the farm, joined by his siblings.

Tico is a sweetheart with a big personality, always up for adventure. Keep an eye out for him exploring with his best friend, JJ, as they discover new sights and smells. You might see them having playful nudging matches or tugging at a left behind dog toy!

Tico adores a variety of treats and, while he’s polite, he’s not shy about nudging for his favorites. He loves gentle pets and body rubs too. You can usually find him roaming the farm or relaxing near the event barn, always ready for some fun! Though he’s a mini donkey, Tico’s charm is larger than life!

Star

Red Rhone Star is a retired show horse with a charming personality that perfectly matches his dapper exterior! Since arriving at the Funny Farm in 2015, he has been stealing the hearts of visitors with his delightful demeanor. Like any true showman, Star loves making connections and turns on his charm when treats are involved.

In the herd, Star might seem a bit reserved, but don’t let that fool you—he has a playful side! You can often find him hanging out with his best friend, Stormie, enjoying their time together. Like any well-groomed gentleman, Star also adores grooming sessions with his horse buddies. Allogrooming is not just a way to keep clean; it’s also a lovely expression of affection among horses. Star truly embodies the joy of friendship and connection!

Manny, Sid, Diego

Our Alpacas Manny, Sid and Diego are playfully named after the movie Ice Age. Manny is the father and Sid and Diego are his sons. They were originally owned by a woman and her boyfriend from Cape May County, NJ. When the woman and her boyfriend separated, she was not able to care for them and just left them out in a field with not much food to eat. Good Samaritans put the woman in contact with Laurie and Laurie agreed to rescue them and bring them to the Funny Farm.

Shenell, Tyrone, Deb & Sue

In Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a Neighborhood Watch captain named Tyrone found two sheep roaming the streets after having escaped slaughter. A local couple, John and Shenell, corralled the sheep to their front porch and contacted Laurie. Laurie dashed to Philly to bring the sheep to Funny Farm, where they received much needed food and vet care. Named after their Philly rescuers, Shenell and Tyrone now thrive with their sheep and goat family on the farm.

Deb and Sue were brought to Laurie in awful condition from an animal seizure case, when the weight of their coats in summer heat was agonizing. Arriving at the Funny Farm, the girls got a cooling haircut and soon enjoyed sneaky nibbles of bird feed and cuddles with their new family, Shenell and Tyrone.

Lexi

Lexi came to the Funny Farm in 2020 after she escaped from a farm in Jackson Township. Lexi was found roaming the streets in a residential neighborhood. Neighbors fed her and one family took her in and kept her in their garage but knew they couldn’t keep her. They called the farm owner in Jackson Township, but he said she would be sent to slaughter if he took her back. The family did not want her to meet that fate so they called Laurie and asked if she could take her. You will often find Lexi hanging out and getting into trouble with her friend Nemo.

Romeo & Juliet

Romeo and Juliet shared their days paddling about the Funny Farm pond and were deeply in love. Swans, known for their lifelong bonds, often grieve deeply when they lose a partner, and Juliet was no exception. Romeo passed away before his love, and Juliet felt lost and heartbroken.

But fate had a new chapter in store. Nearby, a widowed male swan struggled alone, his spirit dimmed by the cold winter ahead. Kindhearted observers brought him to the Funny Farm, hoping to offer him a safe haven.

When Juliet and the new Romeo were introduced, it was love at first sight. These majestic swans seemed to smile as they realized they had found their new “for life” companions. From that day on, they were inseparable, creating a beautiful new beginning together. And so, their tale unfolded with the happiness they both deserved.
